In 1911, the first aeroplane post services were started between the two cities Allahabad and Naini, the two cities of India. In 1932, freighter operations were started by Air India with Douglas DC-3 aircraft. By which Air India became the first airline in Asia to operate freighters.

November 2007, GATI use 737s for freighter services and it became partner with Air India. But in 2012, due to high competition from the local  cargo airlines and financial issues, the company was forced to end its cargo operations. Air India provided  cargo services to various cities of its country until January 2012.
